as promised. yes. i can work extreme quickly. like ninja-speed. see that? that's how quick i am.
so here's what you'll need to create this lovely "fa la la's xmas trees":
- crochet hook nr. 4.5
- yarn: paris drops, but any thick yarn will do. if you want to make smaller ones: use thinner yarn & a thinner hook for example 3.0
- i love to use rainbow colors. and you only need a bit from every skein. i think you'll get 3 or 4 of these cuties out of 1 skein of Drops Paris. but to be honest: i didn't measure. hey, this is a free tutorial remember? you can't have it all :)
- some left over felt in the colors you are making the trees in. i choose the eyelids to have matching colors. you need some white and black for the eyes, and some pink for the mouth.
- some embroidery floss in matching colors (matchy-matchy the eye lids ;)
- and of course your favorite scissor, and felt/fabric glue, and a needle to work in ends and attach the tree trunk to the tree. o yes.

let's start:
you will work in rounds. that means you don't join your work when you've finished one round. remember: you'll need a marker (special crochet marker, or just a little piece of thread), otherwise you will not remember what row you are working on. promise. you will NOT remember.
for the tree:
make a ring (if you go to youtube and search for "crochet magic ring" you'll find lot's of video's showing you how to.
(the number between the brackets is the amount of stitches you'll crochet in that round).
row 1: 5 single crochet in the ring (5)
row 2: 2 single crochet in each single crochet (10)
row 3: 1 single crochet in next stitch, 2 single crochet in next stich (15)
row 4: 1 single crochet in next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stich (20)
row 5: 1 single crochet in next 3 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stich (25)
row 6: 1 single crochet in next 4 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stich (30)
row 7: 1 single crochet in next 5 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stich (35)
row 8: single crochet in each stitch around (35)
row 9: single crochet 2 together, single crochet in next 5 stitches (30)
row 10: single crochet in each stitch around (30)
row 11: single crochet 2 together, single crochet in next 4 stitches (25)
row 12: single crochet in each stitch around (25)
row 13: single crochet 2 together, single crochet in next 3 stitches (20)
row 14: single crochet in each stitch around (20)
row 15: single crochet 2 together, single crochet in next 2 stitches (15)
STUFF THE LITTLE BUGGER (you can use the stuffing for dolls). fill it as much as possible. when you finish your "fa la la christmas tree" you can move the stuffing around with your fingers to get it in all the places.
row 16: single crochet in each stitch around (15)
row 17: single crochet 2 together, single crochet in next stitch (10)
row 18: single crochet in each stitch around (10)
(this is getting harder, since the ring is getting so little. but you can do it. if i can, you can ;)
row 19: single crochet 2 together around (5)
row 20: single crochet 2 together 2 times, single crochet 1 (3)
row 21: slip stitch across to 'close' the tree off. fasten off.
weave in ends.
the tree trunk:
make a ring
row 1: 5 single crochet in the ring (5)
row 2: 2 single crochet in each single crochet (10)
row 3: 1 single crochet in next stitch, 2 single crochet in next stich (15)
row 4 - 6: single crochet in each stitch around (15)
fasten off, and leave at least 10 cm of thread (to attach it to the tree :)

{on the right side in this picture you see how i created 1 eye}
creating the eyes:
the eyes are made out of felt. you need to cut 2 white circles, 2 smaller black circles and 2 little small white circles.
cut 1 circle slightly bigger than the white circle, out of colored felt, for the eye lids. you simply cut that in half, and you have 2 beautiful gorgeous eye lids :)
now: take your embroidery floss, and work with the blanket stitch around the edges of the eyelids ONLY where there's color felt. (just look closely at the pictures, than you'll know what i mean).

see those cute little stitches? a-dor-able.
glue in the black & white dots. and glue the eyes on the 'head'
glue the mouth and star on your pear "fa la la christmas tree"
fill the tree trunk with "doll stuffing". place it underneath your "fa la la christmas tree" and simply sew it on baby.

repeat. repeat. repeat. repeat in all the colors of the world. you can make smaller ones, bigger ones. uglier ones. lovelier ones. oh, and be aware: kids WILL play with these.
life is good. go on, make a whole "fa la la christmas tree" army and surprise me!
